    Are you white?

I'm white, but I live in a kind-of southern city so I work with many black women.

Don't poke fun at them about their hair. Many professional black women have their hair done weekly. Jumping into the shower and blowing it dry or letting it air dry, like I do, is not a part of their life.

I'm not saying a lot of it isn't social pressure, but black hair takes a lot of management. To run off and get all sweaty and then have to wash it is a big deal.

A fitness program designed to reach Black women needs to account for that.

I've had recent encounters with two female black physicians lately. Both had their hair in braids. It looks a little school-marmish, but with MD after your name who cares? It's a style that's a bit easier to care for, but would not cut it in the business world where most black women strive to look perfect.

I'm a white woman and I don't exercise as much as I should because, while I may have the time to exercise, I don't have the time to exercise, shower, and dry my hair between jobs.

Guess the other option would be to go bald?

It's real. In high school we had obligatory swimming as part of our physical education requirements. Some women who had spend a lot of money on their hair styles refused to participate in swimming due to said hair styles. Their grades suffered, in addition to their bodies.
