You seriously seem to have some personal disdain for the guy. The president is more than just some bureaucrat in the government. He is also a leader, and the presidency is an office many look up to, regardless of party. Leaders that have been able to get the country through rough times like Washington, Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and Reagan have. I know there are some mindless supporters of him. But can you not accept the fact that he is an inspiring figure? It's not as if that is a bad thing.

jeez happy just enjoy the moment and let it go....a whole generation of children will now not think it strange that a black person can be president...that is a good thing. It's not hope and faith but another barrier that just tumbled down

This is one of your most insightful posts ever. You are exactly correct: many Americans are looking for a savior, someone to give them eternal hope, someone to rescue them from the "despair" they are currently experiencing, someone to satisfy their desires, someone to heal them.

These Americans are looking to have their souls' desires satisfied by a man. They are putting their faith in Obama to change their souls and to give them joy.

They will be woefully disappointed when they realize the truth: putting faith in someone, the 44th president of the United States, is a hopeless endeavor because this Obama is just a fallible man and not God.

anon. If McCain or Clinton or the Pope had won the presidency on promising hope and faith, I would say the same thing. I have nothing for or against Obama. Kris, it has never occurred to me that a black man or a purple man or a woman or or anybody couldn't be president. I just don't differentiate people like that. Is he the first? yes. Am I impressed? No. I expect it.

What I am saying is government is in place for the spending of other peoples money. And looking for faith and hope from strangers will disappoint you every time.

I am neither a devout republican nor a devout democrat. There are many positions on both sides of the political warfare that I believe in. I stand for issues, not parties.

There are many positions of Obama that I believe in just as George Bush. There are many policies of Obama that I don't believe in, just as George Bush.

I would not expect either man to bring me hope and faith. And I wouldn't dance in the streets looking for my savior. Usually that is reserved for one's God.

    Is he God?

of course you expect it...you have never had a door shut in your face based on pigment. The accomplishment is not his..it is america's. I take care of strangers everyday...do I try to give them hope...yes. Do I disappoint them...try not to.
No he is not god. It is ironic to suggest putting your faith in God the biggest stranger I know. That's not meant to be deragatory but there's a reason they call it a "leap" of faith
