Once up on a time, i was in the hospital and the Hospitalist was not very nice to me. i'm sure that is rare and it was probably because of the reason i was in the hospital that he was so disgusted by me. That is all.

Comprehensive care doctors who defer to hospitalists

You're killing me here, seriously. I can't let these things slide.

No doctor provides "comprehensive care" for anything. Incidentally, if you "defer" to another physician, you're, by definition, not providing comprehensive care.

You slightly misused the word too, btw. I assume you meant "transfer care to" a hospitalist. Deferring to another physician would be moreso deliberately holding back your opinion/treatment recommendation on something for the more expert opinion of someone else, like if a patient asks you the chance they will die from their cancer and they have an oncologist who would be able to give them a more precise answer. "I will defer that question to your oncologist who I have asked to consult today."

Since I'm ragging on someone's English usage, that "who" should have been "whom" obviously.

I just wanted to point out that you've taken up time travelling. Your post date reads February 28 2009. I know you're good but I didn't know you were *that* good!

Emma, by publishing the article and then changing the publish date into the future, it keeps the article at the top of my blog. That's how you time travel in blogger. Nothing more special than that.

I didn't know you could do that *blush* Thankyou for letting me know! I may just find that handy myself..

    Have a good weekend.

Sounds like fun. I like to be the renaissance physcian--everything to everybody. I am a internist who tosses my patients over to a hospitalist at my local hospital, and I am director of the hospitalists at the very same hospital, so often see that everyone has a point and no one is right.

Zoe, if you are interested in authoring at the site, you need to email me so I can send you an invite to join. Then you can blog away. Whatever your heart desires.

Sea Spray, There are no studies that indicate a drop off in quality between hospitalists and PCPs. In fact, by focusing on hospitalist care, we are cheaper, mor efficient, and get you out of the hospital quicker.

As a whole you have nothing to worry about with hospitalists.

Nice blog, I'm going to enjoy reading all of it. I have many rants against not doctors necessarily but certainly the medical system here in Canada. Way too many to leave in one comment...ciao

I think that nobody likes to be in a hospital, more time for the things that you perceive and what is painful for many people, at least I have no time to be followed.
